Critical studies image analysis exercise:
'The Uncle Sam's Range' 1876
From looking at the image 'The Uncle Sam's Range' its clear that its an advertisement by Americans. for Americans. 'The Uncle Sam's Range' is a cooker company so the advertisement is trying to sell the cooker. The image shows that the year is 1876 which is 100 years after America separated from a british country and became its own. This day is called independence day. They appear to be having a celebration in order for independence day, july 4th. If you look closely at the image you can see what appears to be a bill for the worlds food and America seems to be making a mockery of all the other countries by saying China eats grasshoppers and Ireland only eats potatoes.
The image is definitely 'for' America and seems to be selling the American dream lifestyle as if thats what you get when you buy the cooker. They have servants to serve up their food so it gives the impression that they are rich and that if you buy the cooker you will also have this rich lifestyle.
The image also shows the American flag as a carpet with 'The Uncle Sam's Range' written on it in bold upper case font which looks almost like and American cowboy style. There is also a man with an eagle on his shoulder, the eagle is the symbol of America. It also appears that you can see a building through the window which looks like the white house.
All in all this image is advertising how great America is and makes it seem like its because of the cooker.
